Should HIV and Aids Awareness Be Taught In Elementary Schools?

Yes! The fight against HIV and Aids needs a proactive approach. This scourge must be tackled through a forefront manipulation of the understanding and protecting the society from the disease. The school pupils are like the charcoal by the fireplace. They are the next group of persons to be infected. Sound outreach programs in schools helps in creating an in-depth insight on how to live without getting in to the traps of being infected with the disease.

Beginning the war against HIV in the young people’s dimension is like uprooting a weed with its roots. Young people in schools need to be informed of the disease. The causes, symptoms, and prevention measures must exhaustively be taught in schools. Sometime, the society argues that introducing the young to topics related with sexual behaviors instills an immature indulgence in sex matters.

However, it should be noted that young pupil in primary schools begin their puberty stage and it is in this part that they begin discovering sexual affair. Since most of them are on the road of experimentation, they may try to indulge in premature sexual intercourse. When such outreach programs are applied, they sensitize the young early enough and are able to gain a concept of protection from infection.

It is astonishing how the disease has claimed a big population all over the world. The young, the productive population in the economy, professionals, doctors, and the aged have been swept away by the wave of HIV. HIV and Aids is one of the diseases that have seen the loss of the most productive generation in the world’s economies.

The disease has been faced with a lot of misconception on its causes. In fact, even years after the disease was discovered, many people still have not believed that it is real. In some societies for instance, in Africa, it has been associated with myths and superstitions.

Developed countries are now managing the disease due to the wide spread campaign and awareness which has been in place. In addition, the developed world has advanced in providing health factors such as application of anti-retroviral drugs to enhance the bodies’ immunity and destabilize the strength of the viral infection.

The young in the schools if exposed to this the relevant information about HIV they are able to grow up with a mindset that they must live free from the infection. They normally begin sound sexual relationships and protect themselves. It is worthy while noting that the first experience of sexual intercourse can be the definite moment for the transmission of the disease.

It is of less importance to wait for the young to reach the maturity stage only to find out that they have already began their sexual orientation way before the community or family begins to introduce them to HIV knowledge.

Changing a person's behavior is more effective when one is young. Teaching the young about the HIV and Aids is the first step in nurturing responsible persons. It helps nurture sound sexual morals. They grow up with the perception that their live rests on sound moral values.

No one would like to destroy his life at a tender age due to immoral sexual conducts. Young people are said to be the next custodians of the moral values in the society. When they begin this journey early enough, they are able to constructively develop very concrete behavioral characters, which are appreciated by the society.
