Hypertension…Causes, Symptoms and Treatment of High Blood Pressure
Hypertension is a blood disorder whereby the patient has an impaired blood circulation due to a constriction, hardening or narrowing of blood vessels (arteries and arterioles). The narrowing is as a result of cholesterol and other plaques such as calcium deposits that attach themselves on the walls of the blood vessels and block the flow of blood.
Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) is the cholesterol that are scattered and attach themselves to the walls of the vessels. LDL does not hold their cholesterol to transport them efficiently for reprocessing. It's noteworthy that cholesterol is manufactured by the gall bladder and the body does not need more.
High blood pressure occurs as a result of the hardening of the blood vessels and this may be caused by factors such as smoking. This condition is referred to as atherosclerosis. The blood vessels become inelastic and hardened and as a result, they cannot constrict or dilate rhythmically to the blood flow.
When the arteries and arterioles are hardened, constricted, or narrowed, this impairs the flow of blood through the vessels. The body cells and tissues are deprived of oxygen and nutrients.
Normally, the cells are the smallest unit of life in the body. For the cells to sustain their life, they are feed. It's in the cells where the body metabolism activity is initiated. When the cells are deprived of nutrients and oxygen, the heart begins to beat faster in a bid to supply the tissues with more.
However, due to the fact that the blood vessels are narrow, hardened and constricted, the blood being pumped by the heart creates pressure and begins to move faster through the vessels. This can be demonstrated through a large water pipe feeding water to a smaller pipe, and when the water reaches the small pipe, pressure is exerted and it flows faster.
In managing hypertension, the patients are encouraged to observe good eating habits and lifestyles. Research show that 95% of people do not get enough of nutrients needed for good healthy and 75% of people consume food that cause harm. Patients with high blood pressure should take in diets such as fruits and vegetables, fish that has more of omega 3. It is important to note that omega 3 is essential fats that help in the function of the heart, blood and blood vessels.
They also thin or reduce the viscosity of the blood and decrease the risks of blood clots. Low fat dairy products are recommended. Salt intake, smoking and alcohol intake should be avoided. Exercise is imperative.
Also patients should maintain High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL) rather than Low -Density Lipoprotein (LDL) and this is because the latter are poor transporters of cholesterol and they spill them over and attach to the vessel walls blocking them. HDL is good transporters of cholesterol and moves them to the respective organs for reprocessing. It should be noted that cholesterol in the body are useful in the formation of the cell membranes and other functions.
