What Are The Triggers of Depression?

Triggers of depression are many and they range from biochemical effects, family relations, personality, to life stressors. What is depression? Depression is an emotional, physical, and mental state, which affects the feelings, perceptions and thinking of the patient. People experiencing depression usually lack mental concentration. They show disturbances in key behavioral functions such as relating with other people (irritation). There is also lack of confidence and a feeling of being detached and downhearted (social isolation).

A number of inter-related factors cause depression and include family relations (people of blood relation) through internal body functions (biochemical effects) to external factors such as stressful life and personality. Hereditary causes are those genetic predispositions, which lead to development of depression.

People of the same blood may show certain tendencies of being affected by biochemical (body changes) or external factors such as stress to an extend of experiencing depression. These people are highly susceptible to depression under certain circumstances even when other people are not affected when exposed to same conditions.

This explains the reason why some people will experience depression in what could be regarded as normal stressful life. These people lack the ability to cope with life situations that trigger stress and anger.  For example, after losing a loved one, a person may exhibit episodes of depression simply because they are unable to withstand the heavy and deep feelings that are witnessed during this testing moment.

Other people may also loose their loved ones but do not develop depression.  They are able to cope with the ill-emotions and control them until they subside. Biochemical changes in the body are said to trigger depression to individuals especially where the mood regulating neurotransmitters do not function properly.

Such people express feelings of irritability and negative thinking even with the slightest discontent.  For example, a simple difference in opinion by another person would turn out to be a sensitive matter often inducing stress, anger, and bitter feelings that subsequently lead to depression. External factors such as stress inducing events may lead to depression.

In fact, stress is said to trigger depression. Stressful events that affect ones ability to lead through a smooth life and reach self esteem lead to this disease condition.  For example, job-related stress may cause depression.  Other situations such as being pronounced bankrupt may also induce the condition.  In deed, with the ever challenging lifestyle, depression has become a burden to the society.

Personality is also another depression cause. Those people who are highly sensitive to and serious on little things may be affected by this disease condition.  People need not take little things with a lot of weight.  For example, when one looses a loved one, one should not assume that life cannot go on.  One should regard this as a normal situation and every body is destined to that direction.
